Paste your ingredients

One ingredient per line, straight from any recipe. We filled in pancakes so you can see how it works.

Fractions like ½ or 1 1/2, grams, cups and spoons all work.

How much do you want?

Scale by a simple amount, by servings, or to fit a different pan.

Pinch keeps your recent recipes in this browser so you can come back to them. Nothing is uploaded.

Scaling, including the awkward bits

Multiplying is easy. The hard part is what comes after: half an egg, 0.375 cups, a 9 inch round pan when the recipe wants an 8. Pinch handles those for you.

Real measures back

Odd fractions get rounded to spoons and cups you actually own. Tap any rounded amount to see the exact figure.

Half an egg, solved

Fractional eggs come back in grams, with the weights of a whole egg, yolk and white from USDA data.

Swap pan sizes

Moving from a round pan to a 9 x 13? Pinch scales by the pan's area and reminds you to check the bake time.

Honest about what it skips

Lines it cannot read are kept exactly as written and marked, so nothing gets silently changed.

Questions

How do I halve a recipe that uses one egg?

Beat the egg and use half by weight, about 25 g. A large egg is roughly 50 g without its shell. Pinch does this for you and shows the grams.

How do I scale a recipe to a different pan size?

Choose By pan size, pick the recipe's pan and yours. Pinch compares the two areas so the batter ends up about as deep. Baking time does change with pan size, so start checking a little early.

Does it work with metric and US measurements?

Yes. Grams, millilitres, cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, ounces and pounds are all understood, and amounts stay in the units the recipe used.

What does “kept as written” mean?

Pinch could not find an amount on that line, so it left it untouched rather than guess. Things like “butter for the griddle” are kept on purpose.

Can I scale by servings?

Yes. Choose By servings, enter how many the recipe makes and how many you want, and everything scales to match.
